New things

Ok, so this week one of my students who graduated early from High School, started interning with me. It takes a little getting used to finding things for her to do - all the while, not making her to overwhelmed or bored yet still teaching her and showing her what life in ministry is like. I can already tell I am going to get REALLY spoiled having the extra pair of hands to do things. Plus, having her there also makes me much (ok, maybe not much, but....) more focused and on task. I think it will be a grand semester. I am even having time in the evenings to read and watch TV - that doesn't always happen :).
I am really sick of the winter weather here in the great state of IA - I want warm. Which makes me want Feb. 14 to get here even faster (who cares about Valentines Day - I'm going to Dallas!!!!!).
Well, I am off to my volunteering at the elementary school - the 4th graders crack me up. I work with 5 students as an encourager reader and I also work with 1 of the guided reading groups. It is quite fun.
"Enjoy" the snow we are "supposed" to get later 2night/tomorrow.

song lyrics

So with my kids at church, I am sometimes known as the queen of cheese :) - but they know it is me and they laugh, go along, and usually learn something about life and God through it.
The idea I had for this week was much the same (or so I thought) - but it turned out to be even better.
I have a thing for song lyrics. They will randomly pop in my head and relate to a situation. Which is what happened one night last week when I had drunk caffinee (sp?) too late in the day so was laying awake in bed.
Our lesson for Wed. PM was "new creation" (the 2nd Corn. 5 passage) - because it was the new year, talking about how Christ makes us new and our lives are different (from the old and from the world) when we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us (or they should be).
Faith in Christ changes things. So, lying awake in bed, a song from High School Musical (yes, I secretly like the movies) pops in my head. And as I grab my i-pod and take a listen, the lyrics of the song TOTALLY work for our faith lives - "Start of Something New". So we listened to the song and I told them to wipe every thought/idea they already had about the movie out of their minds and listen to the song as if it were about their relationship with God.
And they were highly impressed at how it worked :). I will include the lyrics here (but go to itunes or somewhere and listen to the song - it really is good), enjoy!

Start of Something New
High School Musical

Living in my own world
Didn't understand
That anything can happen
When you take a chance
I never believed in
What I couldn't see
I never opened my heart
To all the possibilities
I know that something has changed
Never felt this way
And right here tonight

This could be the start
Of something new
It feels so right
To be here with you
And now looking in your eyes
I feel in my heart
The start of something new

Now who'd of ever thought that
We'd both be here tonight
And the world looks so much
With you by my side
I know that something has changed
Never felt this way
I know it for real

This could be the start
Of something new
It feels so right
To be here with you
And now looking in your eyes
I feel in my heart
The start of something new

I never knew that it could happen
Till it happened to
didn't know it before
But now it's easy to see

It's a start
Of something new
It feels so right
To be here with you
And now looking in your eyes
I feel in my
That it's the start
Of something new
It feels so right
To be here with you
And now looking in your eyes
I feel in my heart
The start of something new
Start of something new

I'm back - for now

After all of my other friends keep us up-to-date about themselves and happenings on thier blogs I decided I'd better get back in the swing off things.
Short one today, as I am soon leaving for Dubuque - riding up with some friends from CR cuz they are going to a YMCA swimmeet, and I am meeting a friend from college (Megan) for lunch. Fun times.
Then, tonight, I get to babysit (2nd shift - Bridget is taking the first) the 2 bestest girls in the world, Grace and Mary (my cousins). All around, it should be a grand day.
Plus, I am liking the bit warmer weather. Wootwoo.
Ok, I will make it a goal to post at least 1 more time this coming week and work at getting some pics up.
Happy Saturday y'all.
